Denise Provost has served Somerville in many capacities over the last twenty years. She was Assistant City Solicitor for six years in the 1980s, during the Brune administration. She then spent a decade as a neighborhood activist, parent, and attorney in private practice. She was first elected to the Board of Aldermen in 1999, and in January 2006, Denise Provost was elected as State Representative for the 27th Middlesex district. Denise combines common sense and caring with her broad experience in municipal government. Her focus has been on a variety of issues relative to public health and our environment, ensuring quality health care for all, protecting marriage equality, and promoting the economic development of the city in balance with the needs of its residential neighborhoods. She advocates tirelessly for Somerville before the agencies that prioritize and fund transportation projects. Denise and her husband have raised their family in Somerville. Their older daughter, Emma, is a first-year student at Smith College (Northampton, MA) and their younger daughter, Eliza, is in fifth grade at the Healy School in Somerville.
