Denise at DCR Rink

Representative Denise Provost (D-Somerville) has served the City of Somerville in many capacities over the last twenty years. For decades, she worked as a neighborhood activist, parent, and attorney in private practice. She was first elected to the Board of Aldermen* in Somerville in 1999, and in January 2006, Denise Provost was elected as State Representative for the 27th Middlesex District, which embraces the heart of the City of Somerville.

Rep. Provost went into the field of municipal law in 1982, with a focus on constitutional issues. She combines common sense and caring with her broad experience in municipal government. Rep. Provost is deeply concerned with the civil rights of all, and the protection of the powerless and oppressed. As a legislator, Rep. Provost has advocated for improved public health and for our environment; ensuring quality health care for all, protecting marriage equality; for the rights of the disabled, youth, and immigrants. She has worked to promote sustainable economic development, citizen participation, and better transportation for Somerville.

Denise and her husband have raised their family in Somerville. They have two daughters, who have attended Somerville public schools.
